Wal-Mart Stores, Bentonville, Ark., said Monday its Walmart Foundation is launching a nationwide campaign to get the public involved in fighting hunger.
The campaign — called “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” — will ask the public to cast one vote per day through Oct. 5 at www.walmart.com/fighthunger to indicate which food banks and local partner agencies they would like to see receive money from the Walmart Foundation; each of the 50 winning food banks will receive a $60,000 grant — a total of $3 million, equivalent to more than 37 million meals, Walmart said.
The campaign will also include six CPG companies — ConAgra Foods, General Mills, Hormel, Kellogg Co., PepsiCo/Quaker and Unilever — who collectively will donate $426,000, or the equivalent of 4.26 million meals, Walmart said. The Walmart Foundation will also donate $300,000 to Feeding America nationally, the company added.
The campaign will also feature chef G. Garvin.

“Hunger remains a serious issue in our country as millions of Americans don’t know where their next meal will come from," according to Kathleen McLaughlin, president of the Walmart Foundation, and SVP, Walmart Sustainability. "By engaging our associates, customers and suppliers in the fight against hunger, we can make a positive impact on this issue and ensure families have access to the healthier and nutritious food they need.”
She said the campaign will also provide information on how consumers can take more direct action to fight hunger in their local communities by donating time or money.
