ConAgra Foods, Inc., named David Biegger, a veteran of food logistics, to the new post of chief supply chain officer.
The position puts Mr. Biegger in a key post at the top of ConAgra’s supply chain as the company is overhauling its operations by exiting the private-label business and cutting costs.
Mr. Biegger is a 34-year supply-chain industry veteran who most recently was supply chain vice president for Campbell Soup Co. He spent 10 years at Campbell Soup and held several supply chain strategy and operations management positions.
He earlier was at Procter & Gamble Inc. for 24 years in various supply chain posts.
ConAgra said that Mr. Biegger will oversee the company’s manufacturing, procurement, environment, health and safety, plant quality, customer logistics and planning, and transportation and warehousing for the consumer foods business.
ConAgra is retooling its business after reporting a $1.24 billion lossin its fiscal first quarter ending Aug. 30 and said it is seeking buyers for its private-label business. The company had nearly $16 billion in sales last year.
ConAgra had grouped its supply-chain functions with research and development until Chief Executive Sean Connelly decided to separate them after he took the top leadership post in April, said Jon Harris, a spokesman.
“This reflects the great importance we see supply chain playing in our transformation plan,” said Mr. Harris.
