All Natural Freshness Founder and University of Guelph Food Scientist Bring HPP Expertise to Vegesentials’ Cold-pressed Juices
HPP has been used to treat juices for over two decades, however additional research is needed to understand the effect of HPP on the different types of foods and food-borne bacteria.
According to Dr. Keith Warriner, the aim of the validations is “to determine the efficacy of different HPP treatments to reduce model pathogens introduced into high acid juices.”
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MI (PRWEB) FEBRUARY 25, 2016
Vegesentials, the multiple international award-winning cold pressed fruit and vegetable drink brand will be launched in the United States in March 2016. The London-based Vegesentials Ltd. has partnered with All Natural Freshness, L.L.C., a Delaware limited liability company with offices in Bloomfield Hills and Three Rivers, Michigan to manufacture and distribute the Vegesentials line of juices throughout North America.
All Natural Freshness, L.L.C. was founded by Gerald Ludwick, a respected expert in HPP technology. Until its sale in 2015, Ludwick was the on-site consultant for HPP at Garden Fresh Salsa in Ferndale, Michigan beginning in 2009. Mr. Ludwick brings a wealth of knowledge in HPP, as well as experience in producing food products that are healthy and high quality. Ludwick notes that “HPP allows manufacturers to eliminate artificial additives, preservatives, and other laboratory-created materials from our foods.”
All Natural Freshness gives Vegesentials co-founder Andrew Mugadu confidence that his partner has the same high standard for taste and quality. “Not only did Jerry have the opportunity to work with one of the top fresh food manufacturers and entrepreneurs in the World, he brings a wealth of knowledge in the fresh food sciences.”
As part of the required North American validation of the juice contents, Ludwick retained the Department of Food Science at the University of Guelph (Ontario, CA) to certify the HPP process and juice ingredients. According to Dr. Keith Warriner, the aim of the validations is “to determine the efficacy of different HHP treatments to reduce model pathogens introduced into high acid juices.”
Because HPP technology is relatively new and fresh juice has become so popular, Dr. Warriner will continue his academic research with Ludwick and Vegesentials to improve food safety for consumers. “The results [of our testing] indicate that juice formulation has a role in defining the pressure resistance of pathogens although which constituents provide protection to HHP remain unclear.”
Dr. Warriner will continue his academic research in collaboration with Vegesentials. “There is still a knowledge gap on the effect of juice constituents on the bartolerance of bacteria which is why further research is required.”
Vegesentials is the United Kingdom’s first cold pressed vegetable and fruit drink brand. Following its launch in June 2012, Vegesentials can now be found in all but one WholeFoods in the U.K., 60% of the Waitrose supermarkets, and 50% of the Holland and Barrett outlets.
Vegesentials has received numerous awards and recognition since its initial launch, including 2 Gold Stars awards for Superior Taste from the International Taste & Quality Institute, Winner of ‘the Health & Fitness Food and Drink ‘Smoothie Category 2014 Award’ by Women’s Fitness and Health & Fitness Magazines, Gold in the low calorie food and drink category by Women’s Fitness and Health & Fitness 2016, Voted as No.1 ‘Highly Recommended’ Drink at Be:Fit London Show 2014 by ‘Science of Fit’, Winner of 'Best Exhibitor Award 2014’ at The Food & Drink Expo Trade Show NEC Birmingham, UK’s largest ‘Food & Drink’ trade show in 2014, and Finalist for Grocer Gold Award for “Entrepreneur of 2014.”
