Bargain 25p EasyFoodstore shuts down after stocks run out
EasyJet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou’s budget food store has been in the news ever since its initiation. The budget store which opened its door couple of days back has been forced to close down following the huge queue of bargain hunters. The discounter which startled everyone with the inexpensive prices charges just 25p for essential food items. EasyFood Store announced that it is shutting down temporarily after stocks ran out. The store closed on Wednesday afternoon after shoppers swamped the supermarket, stripping its shelves bare. The EasyFoodstore in Park Royal, north-west London, is due to reopen on Friday after being re-stocked.
A notice on the budget-store’s website reads: “easyGroup and the team at easyFoodstore regret to announce that we will remain closed for one day tomorrow 4th February and expect to open with business as usual on Friday the 5th of February at 9am.” Analyst predicted that the store would cause major problems for German stalwarts Aldi and Lidl. Stelios Haji-Ioannou, the British entrepreneur of Greek-Cypriot origin, opened first store of his supermarket brand Easy Foodstore in the London suburb of Park Royal. According to the early shoppers many of its products were selling even cheaper than the cheapest supplier Lidl and Aldi.
Around 80 products were sold for 25 pence (36 cents), including in particular pasta, potatoes, canned goods and spices. Prices could be raised slightly in March, but will still remain very low, said Haji-Ioannou. Haji-Ioannou will generally offer better prices than Aldi and Lidl, which are the best stores in the United Kingdom.
