Lidl prepares for US launch with supply chain investments
Lidl has announced plans to open a regional headquarters and distribution centre (DC) in Maryland, USA.
$100m investment
The discounter plans to invest $100m in the two facilities, which will be in Perryville, Cecil County. The location has been strategically chosen for its transport links: it’s about halfway between Baltimore (Maryland) and Philadelphia (Pennsylvania), just off the I-95 highway, which spans the length of the entire East Coast of the US.
Building an efficient infrastructure
Brendan Proctor, CEO of Lidl US, commented: “We are excited to announce a new hub of operations for Lidl US in Maryland. This facility is an important step in building an efficient infrastructure that will allow us to deliver outstanding quality goods to our customers at the lowest possible prices. We selected Cecil County not only because it offers a central location for our distribution network, but also because it will be a great place for our employees to work and live.
