QuikTrip has begun adding a new “Kitchens” feature to its Omaha-area stores — a full kitchen that offers food such as pizza, toasted sandwiches, kolaches, milkshakes, smoothies and specialty coffee drinks. The Tulsa, Oklahoma-based company operates about a dozen QuikTrip fueling and convenience stores in the Omaha area. The new food-service counter opened about a month and a half ago at the QuikTrip store at 84th and G Streets, just south of the Interstate 80 entrance ramps, a store manager said.
QuikTrip, which operates 699 stores in 11 states, including Nebraska and Iowa, plans to remodel all the Omaha-area stores it can, said Michael Thornbrugh, company spokesman. Some stores may not have enough room for the new format, in which case they may be relocated, he said. The privately owned company hopes to complete all of the planned remodels by the end of the year. The remodeled stores are expected to hire additional employees to staff the Kitchens division, Thornbrugh said. Companywide, QuikTrip has added about 2,000 employees in recent months.
