Who would’ve thought the Pokémon Go app would be good for restaurant and bar business? Restaurateurs and bar owners are noticing that their locations are PokéStops and are quickly taking advantage of the craze by adding Poké-themed drinks to their menus or scheduling meet ups near their place of business.
“We started noticing small crowds of people on our patio, and after some asking around, learned that there was aPokéStop located on the patio’s fountain,” says Lambrine Macejewski, owner of Cocina 214 in Winter Park, Florida. ”Our bartenders are especially into the game and crafted special shots for the game’s teams, red, yellow and blue, that will be on special for $5 each all weekend. The ingredients highlight the liquor we’re best known for, tequila, and are specific to the teams’ colors, using cranberry for red, Curacao for blue and orange and pineapple juice for yellow. The garnishes are color coordinated as well.”

Businesses like Cocina 214 are cleverly taking a playful approach to the game and bringing it to life through shots that correspond to the game’s team colors. Are you part of Team Valor (red), Team Mystic (blue) or Team Instinct (yellow)? Depending on which team you chose upon hitting Level 5, here are your choices:
  • The Valor Shot (Red): Sauza tequila, sour mix, splash of cranberry – Sugar rim and garnished with a cherry.
  • The Mystic Shot (Blue): Sauza tequila, blue curacao, sour mix, splash of sprite – Sugar rim and garnished with a lime wedge.
  • The Instinct Shot (Yellow): Sauza tequila, sour mix, splash of orange juice and pineapple juice – Sugar rim and garnished with an orange slice.
In Chicago, a local neighborhood merchant group is using Facebook to market its family-friendly Pokémon Go meet up tomorrow night. Residents are invited to meet at the local newsstand City Newsstand and hit up all the PokéStops along the way until they hit Josi’s Frozen Yogurt.
Chicago restaurants Beef & Barley is offering Lucky Egg while Las Tablashas a new Pikachu cocktail on its beverage menus at both its restaurants locations.
No doubt we’ll be seeing more businesses taking advantage of Pokémon Go app throughout the weekend.
