Kellogg's Makes Twitter Users' Dreams Come True with Cinnamon Frosted Flakes
Social media is great!
For the first time in 64 years, Kellogg’s K -0.19% will add cinnamon to its iconic Frosted Flakes cereal.
Frosted Flakes was first introduced in 1952 as “Sugar Frosted Flakes.” Since then there have been three variations added to the Frosted Flakes portfolio—Frosted Flakes Choco Zucaritas, Frosted Flakes with Marshmallows, and Frosted Flakes with Energy Clusters. Now Kellogg’s is responding to high demand on social media for Cinnamon Frosted Flakes.
“We started to really notice it over the last couple of years,” Brad Schwan, Kellogg’s senior director of morning food marketing, told the Detroit Free Press. “We’d see fans on Twitter talking about how cinnamon would be so terrific on Frosted Flakes and we really started to listen.”
Kellogg’s began working on its Cinnamon Frosted Flakes about a year ago. It has since made its way through more than a hundred different variations before landing on the winning recipe.
This may be the first time Kellogg’s is adding cinnamon to its Frosted Flakes recipe, but it isn’t the first time Tony the Tiger is endorsing a cinnamon-flavored cereal. For a short time, he was also the face of Cinnamon Krunchers. The non-flake cereal was first introduced in 2003, and discontinued just two short years later.
Schwan told Fortune that Cinnamon Frosted Flakes will be available in grocery stores nationwide by January 2017.
