Smaller format store headed for old TGI Friday's space
Dollar General to open new concept in Midtown

Dollar General officials have announced the development of a new concept store to be located in Midtown and slated for an early 2017 opening.
Smaller and more sleek than the Goodlettsville-based retail chain's more conventional stores, the concept tentatively is called DGX. DG plans to open a similar store in Raleigh, North Carolina, also early next year.
According to a statement provided to the Post, DGX stores will offer items and sections geared toward immediate consumption, including a soda fountain, a coffee station and grab-and-go sandwiches.
DGX will operate in about 3,400 square feet of space formerly occupied by TGI Friday’s, which closed in 2014. Building owner Baker Storey McDonald Properties secured a permitfor the overhaul of the space in September. An outpost of California-based PizzaRev will also open in the old restaurant space, according to Nashville Business Journal, which also first reported the Dollar General news.
The property (see here courtesy of Google Maps) is located at the northeast corner of the intersection of West End and 21st avenues.
The new DG stores are designed “to serve busy, metropolitan shoppers with everyday low prices on the essentials they need in a convenient, easy-to-shop format,” according to the release.

Dollar General said the stores will also offer limited grocery items and “items not typically found in quick-trip stores, including a carefully-edited assortment of home, electronics and seasonal offerings.”
The retail chain has also experimented in the other direction — larger stores — in the past few years.
