Kolonial.no, Norway’s largest online grocery store (think Norway’s Fresh Direct), is beta testing self-driving delivery vehicles. The country thinks Kolonial.no’s new initiative will be more cost-effective and ease the burden on consumers, especially families, to manage grocery shopping.

Essentially, the reduction in distribution costs will get passed onto the customers, so it’s a win-win. The service will also provide minute-to-minute tracking via an app, allowing people to decide when and where to pick up their groceries. Government advocates of the program also cite potential applications of this program such as picking up glass and metal for recycling purposes.
