ShopRite will soon have more options for careful consumers.
The retail chain has announced a new line of organic products, labeled Wholesome Pantry and Wholesome Pantry Organic. The products will also be free of artificial additives, flavors and preservatives.
More than 100 Wholesome Pantry products are currently available on shelves from the frozen, dairy, meat and produce sections. The chain ultimately plans to offer triple that number in the coming months. The line also includes 35 snack varieties, such as almond energy mix and organic banana chips. Other products include organic pasta sauce, peanut butter and fortified eggs.
The products comply with standards from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which certifies organic meat, produce and processed foods. The ShopRite website contains a list of the 110 ingredients that the chain chose to exclude from the Wholesome Pantry line.
ShopRite, owned by Wakefern Food Corp, plans to inform customers of its new line with in-store dietitians that will host product demonstrations and provide product suggestions and recipes to shoppers.
The chain, which has 270 stores in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania, began offering organic options in 1999.
