Golub Corp. on Wednesday opened its first ground-up Market 32 store in Sutton, Mass.
The store is the fourth Market 32 to open since Golub, operator of the Price Chopper chain, announced plans a year ago to rebrand the majority of the chain under the new banner, which sports a modern look and emphasizes convenience. The first three stores (located in Clifton Park and Wilton, N.Y., and Pittsfield, Mass.) were Price Chopper conversions. Several other conversions are underway across the chain’s six-state footprint and ground will be broken on another new store in Oxford, Conn., next month.
“Market 32 is a reflection of what our customers have told us they want in a modern and convenient shopping experience,” said Jerry Golub, Price Chopper CEO.
The look and feel of Market 32 is distinctively more modern than Price Chopper, though the Schenectady, N.Y.-based company said many of the differences are subtle. Marked by open space, a décor filled with soft earth tones and product-focused displays, murals and lighting, the brand emphasizes convenient, ready-to-eat foods, fresh, handcrafted, and locally grown, produced and manufactured products, and intuitive product and department adjacencies.
“Our Sutton Market 32 is a grocery store for this and future generations. While maintaining our focus on quality and value, we’ve added modern conveniences like a patisserie/café equipped with wi-fi, a drive-thru pharmacy, a Chef’s Table offering food demonstrations and sampling, a new higher standard of service and a host of wonderful signature items throughout the store,” said Golub..
A catered "preview party" held Tuesday drew several hundred people and raised thousands of dollars for the Sutton Food Pantry, Sutton Senior Center and Sutton Youth Soccer. All proceeds collected at the door were matched by Market 32 and Galaxy Development.
Company official said Market 32 is committed to supporting local manufacturers and growers, sourcing authentic imports and expanding varieties of gluten-free and organic, natural products. Destination displays feature categories such as pasta and sauce, rices and grains, and oils and vinegars.
“The Market 32 store in Sutton is a hallmark moment for our company. We’ve built the kind of grocery store our customers have told us that they are looking for. We’re very proud of this store and even more proud to be a part of this community,” said Golub.
