The 'best-performing' food and beverage industry CEOs — who made the cut?

Harvard Business Review released its best-performing CEOs in the world list, and the food and beverage industry held a slightly different mix of people than last year.
A driving factor for this change was a shake-up in the criteria. A new evaluative tool for 2015 was a company's environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance, for which it used research firm Sustainalytics. Long-term financial results are weighted at 80%, while ESG at 20%.
Additionally, the list now includes CEOs who started before 1995, now that it can analyze that data. Those CEOs now make up a quarter of the rankings.
For the food industry, transparency is an increasingly important trend, stemming from consumers wanting to know what's in their food. They're demanding companies take out ingredients and provide clean labels, which all fit into the industry's marketplace perception.
This transparency increase is something that companies like Chipotle (No. 92) also use for marketing.
"Our view is that, in an era of big data and greater transparency, consumers and investors increasingly want to understand a company's culture and values," according to Harvard Business Review. "They want to analyze its social behavior, not just its share price. These new measurements will only get better over time."
The biggest drop for a food industry CEO in the top 100 was Monsanto's Hugh Grant, falling from No. 7 to No. 66. The company recently announced it would be cutting 2,600 jobs — 11.8% of its employee base — amid a sales decline. Also coming off its failed Syngenta acquisition, all eyes will be on Grant for how he will restructure the company.
Carlos Brito, AB InBev's CEO, shot up 30 slots, from No. 46 to No. 16. The company has been slurping up craft brewery after craft brewery, and SABMiller finally accepted AB InBev's $104.2 billion offer. Pending the completition of the deal and shareholders earning returns, Brito is in for another rise in the ranks come next year.
