Starbucks, Shanghai

The design of Starbucks’ flagship in the new Disneytown at Shanghai Disney Resort was inspired by the craft of coffee and the magic of Disney — and the latest in ordering technology.

Located in the entertainment district just outside the main entrance to the theme park,  the store is topped with a specially crafted wind vane that evokes the playfulness of Disney with the iconic Starbucks siren.

The first and second floors of the store are joined by terraced stairs. Hanging from the ceiling is a piece of artwork designed from gold and white metal wiring and inspired by the latte art crafted by Starbucks’ baristas. The centerpiece of the space is a mural of the Starbucks siren made out of Starbucks cups. Intricately designed silhouette scenes inside a handful of the cups were designed by local artists and represent China’s cultural heritage.

Instead of the traditional menu board, the store features a digital menu. And customers can place their orders using a mobile handheld device available at the store or from their personal mobile device.
